🗣️ First-Person Spoken Practice (Main / Mera Form)

Subah ke aath baj rahe the.
It was eight o’clock in the morning.

Main ghar par tha aur mera chai peene ka dil kar raha tha.
I was at home, and I felt like having tea.

Main chai banane ke liye kitchen mein gaya.
I went into the kitchen to make tea.

Main ne ek bartan mein paani, doodh aur chai ki patti daali.
I put water, milk, and tea leaves into a pot.

Jab chai tayyar ho gayi, to main ne chai ek cup mein daali.
When the tea was ready, I poured it into a cup.

Saamne do dabbay rakhe the. Ek mein cheeni thi aur doosre mein namak.
There were two containers in front of me. One contained sugar, and the other contained salt.

Dono dabbay ek jaise lag rahe the.
Both containers looked alike.

Main ne ek dabba khola aur us mein se ek chamach bhar kar chai mein daal diya.
I opened one container and added a spoonful of its contents to my tea.

Phir main chai le kar apni ammi ke paas aa gaya.
Then I brought my tea over to my mother.

Main ne chai ka pehla ghoont liya aur foran cup mez par rakh diya.
I took my first sip of tea and immediately put the cup down on the table.

“Ammi! Yeh chai itni namkeen kyun hai?”
“Mum! Why is this tea so salty?”

Ammi ne poochha, “Tum ne chai mein kya daala tha?”
My mother asked, “What did you put in the tea?”

Main ne kaha, “Cheeni! Bas ek chamach!”
I said, “Sugar! Just one spoonful!”

Ammi mere saath kitchen mein gayin aur dabba khol kar dekha.
My mother went into the kitchen with me and opened the container to check.

“Aray, yeh to namak hai! Tum ne cheeni ki jagah namak daal diya!”
“Oh, this is salt! You put salt in instead of sugar!”

Main hansne laga. “Achha, to aaj namkeen chai ban gayi!”
I began to laugh. “Oh, so today I’ve made salty tea!”

Main ne woh chai phenk di aur dobara chai banayi.
I poured that tea away and made some more.

Is baar main ne pehle dekh liya ke yeh cheeni hai, phir chai mein daali.
This time, I checked that it was sugar before adding it to my tea.

Main ne ek ghoont liya aur kaha, “Haan, ab theek hai!”
I took a sip and said, “Yes, now it’s right!”

Ammi ne hans kar kaha, “Ab mere liye bhi ek cup bana do. Lekin cheeni wali!”
My mother laughed and said, “Now make a cup for me too. But with sugar!”
